Sail Tale The previous owner of my Pearson 35 had a credit card and aspirations of becoming a racer. He equipped the boat accordingly with some very nice things. An exotic looking, light air jib was one of them. I doubt if this sail was ever out of the bag. Being sort of a duffer, I thought maybe someone else would be very happy having this sail at a reduced price. My local sail loft told me it was/is a Mylar/Dacron laminate and they could make one like it for somewhere around $2400. As the sail was made by North, I figured it probably cost several hundred more and somewhere around $1200 would be fair. I advertised it around the yacht club and on the web. After five years still have it. Two people wanted it but never had enough money to start negotiations. So last month I sent the sail to a noted used sail loft. Their deal is, you send them the sail, they examine it and will make an offer to buy it. If you do not like the offer, they will send it back at their expense. I understand that they have to make a profit, but was really surprised when the proudly offered me $150. After a little more talk, they did come up to $300. The sail is back in my garage. So the lesson is----used sails are worth nothing!!

Update: Mar 2007
Former owner, Larry Bragg sent these pictures in of
Sea Urchin, hull #154, after finding it on the highway after hurricane Ivan
(So how did the flag survive when the hull was split? You guys have strange winds up
there in Pensacola. Looks like somebody still cares for it Larry.
Keep us posted with pictures.)
Larry Bragg
Will try to get some more info from Larry.
