Voyager Write up

Ray replaces his A4 with a Yanmar 3YM30

  • Referring to the "new stuff" dated 12/28/06, Sun Dancer has about 1000 pounds of lead ingots in the bilge.

  • When I acquired Sun Dancer, the bilge was a mess of oily sludge. I removed and cleaned all of the ingots and replaced them.

  • See the pile under the rudder. (picture 1)

  • When I acquired Sun Dancer (hull #4), it was flooded up to the seat cushions with rain/snow and oil.

  • I scrapped the Atomic 4 and replaced it with a Yanmar 3YM30 because I intended to do long distance cruising. We put 3300 miles and 900 hours on it last winter.

  • It was an easy replacement for me, a retired marine engineer. I did all the work myself. Minor modification of the engine foundation, but complete rearrangement and renewal of all plumbing (water, fuel, exhaust).

  • I had to increase the propeller pitch and made a new shaft.
