Nov - Dec 2008
|
I had installed a PSS Shaft Seal (PYI)
replacement for my cutlass during the haul out of 2000.
That has been 8 years of of not one drip and zero
maintenance. Hats off the PYI group. First class product. So during the Haul Out of 2008, I decided to
renew the bellow as a recommendation
from PYI as a 8 year update. The
picture below is an 8 year old PSS installed in a Pearson 35.

old PSS
|
During the Nov-Dec 2008 Haul out I removed and updated the bellow
and o-rings of the PSS. 1-C Clamps off, 2-The two sets of "set
screws," come out, 3-slide the collar forward, slide the shaft back and the PSS
bellow off, 4-reconfigure the replacement bellow with new set screws,
c-clamps and o-rings, 5-install the shaft in the boat, 6-lube the
shaft and slide the new PSS collar on, 7-secure the collar at the correct
location (see video below), 8-Once boat is in the water, allow the bellow
to fill with water via the shaft tube and then release the air.

Updating the O-Rings
and Bellow
The update
for the PSS is a new bellow, o-rings and set screws. I pulled
out he old o-rings, replaced them with the new supplied ones,
removed the slide collar from the old billow and configured the new
bellow. I did polish up the facing collar to slide over the
shaft. Next the install in the boat. |

Installing and
Adjusting
The PSS was slipped on the shaft, double screw clamps
on both ends, shaft lubricated and the end collar slipped on and
then the coupler. The coupler needs to be in place before
securing the end collar with the set screws. |
