Backing Plates

Time to update those backing plates.  If yours are like mine you might say, "What backing Plates?"   Yea, that's exactly what I mean.  You might want to add some.

HOW PEARSON BUILT IT

Pictures of the Backing Plates as installed by Pearson in 1979 on a P35.  You may notice that most of the stanchions and especially the cleats never had backing plates installed.

STRENGTHENING WHAT'S THERE

So if the original stuff worked for almost 25 years why do you have to change anything.  Good question and the answer can be seen in some of the pictures above.  You should have noticed the cracked fiberglass backing disks, water penetration around the bolts as well as rusted bolts... to name a few.  So my progress to date is as follows...

Vice Grips help to remove the nuts if you are alone.  Be sure to tie off the handle so you don't loose it in the bilge.

You can do this by yourself but it does make for a lot trips up and down.

Work is still in Progress....
