New Halyards

My old halyards were showing their age.
Worse than that, they were wearing out the mast head pulleys.

The previous owner had installed 1/2" halyards for the main and genoa.  They are great on the hands but not for the mast head pulleys.  The edges of wire/rope pulley grove was showing real signs of edge ware.  While the mast was down, my son pulled the four pulleys out, sanded them down and lubed the center pins.  Because of the oversized lines the grove was beginning to ware down on the outside edge.  Time for new halyards with a new size diameter.

The picture above shows the old 1/2" halyard on the right with the new 3/8" halyard on the left.  Notice the big difference in the way the lines lay in the pulleys.

To take out the salt from the lines wash them in cold water with Woolite®.  Be ready to take some time to untangle them.
