Joe is no stranger to the Pearson Newsgroups and he recently responded to a question from the group concerning a Seahood (top cover over the main hatch). Below is his response which he offered to share with the rest of of us. Nice job Joe and thanks much for taking the time. Great detailed pictures with measurements at the bottom of the frame. (Pictures are expandable) |
SEAHOOD INFORMATION THE WASHBOARDS ARE SCREWED TO EACH AFT SIDE OF THE HOOD. IT APPEARS THAT THE AFT SIDE OF THE HOOD WAS MOLDED AS CLOSED AND THEN CUT AWAY TO ACCOMMODATE VARIOUS COMPANIONWAY HATCHES (on the different models) THAT PEARSON BUILT.
MEASUREMENTS ARE CLOSE BUT NOT EXACT BECAUSE OF ROUNDED EDGES
THE HOOD IS ¼" TO 5/16 " THICK. THE FORWARD END IS ROUNDED - THE CENTER EXTENDS ABOUT ½ " FARTHER THAN THE SIDES. THE ENTIRE HOOD HAS A CROWN OF ABOUT ½ " TO ACCOMMODATE THE CABIN TOP AND TO DRAIN WATER FROM THE TOP OF THE HOOD. THE SCUPPERS ARE ½" HOLES.
A 1 ¼" LIP RUNS AROUND THE FORWARD THREE SIDES. IT IS SCREWED AT EACH CORNER TO THE CABIN TOP.
THE SEAHOOD IS STRONG ENOUGH FOR A 210 POUND MAN TO WALK ON WITHOUT OIL-CANNING. THERE WAS ALSO A MOLDED NONSKID ON THE DECK SURFACE. OUR NONSKID WAS BADLY WORN SO WE USED SAND GRIT AND PAINT -- BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY.
